Part 1:
About December 1990, Randy Weaver was charged with a weapons violation, for selling short-barreled shotgun(s) to undercover agents. He jumped bail, missed a later court appearance, and went into exile in his ridge-top cabin. He has made claims that the weapons charge was in retaliation for him refusing to inform on the Aryan Nations, a group he did not join. (He was a member of Christian Identity, yet another "subversive religious cult".)
He was kept under periodic surveillance for 18 months before agents went in. The family dog, son Sam Weaver (age 14), and (BATF? FBI?) agent Deagan were killed in the initial firefight. The order of death has not been settled. The next day, wife Vicki was killed by a sniper's bullet intended for Randy.
About two months ago, the Seattle Times had an article stating that the agency in charge relaxed its rules on the use of deadly force, and intended to kill Randy and Vicki. A government psychologist felt that Vicki was likely to commit suicide and take the children with her. The agency planned to kill her to save the children. That part of the plan was scrapped when they discovered that they had no warrant for her. In the end, they killed her by "accident".
Officer Deagan was killed by Kevin Harris, a family friend staying with the Weavers.
There has to be some important information that is not yet public. The stuff that has been reported is insufficient to justify such a deadly raid against someone not previously connected to any violent crime.
Part 2:
Acording to "The Idaho Statesman" 9/12/92
"Deputy U.S. Marshal Arthor Roderick admitted that none of the federal agents carried a search warrent for Weaver's home while they were on Weaver's property. Nor did they ever attempt to apporach Weaver at his home to arrest him, he said."
In the Weaver case, there were No papers. Just federal agents hiding on the Weaver property.
The Weavers went out to investigate why their dog was barking. Camouflaged U.S. Marshals shot & killed the dog, then the son (Sam 14 years old) before Kevin Harris shot the U.S. Marshal. Vicky Weaver was shot while standing in the doorway holding their baby. She was shot by a sharpshooter with a single shot through the head.
